BIO-CULTURAL HERITAGE

“The project proposes Biocultural Heritage Devices in the English Uplands as urgent territorial infrastructure for the environmental restoration.”

Vasilis Appios, 2021.

SYNOPSIS

The project proposes Biocultural Heritage Devices in the English Uplands as urgent territorial infrastructure for the environmental restoration.

It is suggesting a more logical and accessible way to utilise the new post-Brexit Public Good subsidies that will replace the existing Common Agricultural Policy of the EU. The architecture emerges from the belief that such subsidies need to be open to everyone –not just the farmer– and to also empower the local Civil Parish and its citizens to enact change from within and to be active members of a convivial conservation revolution.

To investigate the territory, the project focuses on three existing devices of the Uplands that have disturbed the landscape: the Copse, the Dry-Stone Walls and the Cowhouse. People (and architecture) belong in the Uplands – they are the designers of this territory.
