CIVIC LOGIC ALLIANCE

“The CLA aims to bring communities together by enabling them to build on the vast amount of leftover, seemingly unbuildable spaces throughout the city and proposes an open-source, participatory platform that challenges existing construction systems and acts as an operating system for architecture.”

SYNOPSIS

The Civic Logic Alliance (CLA)proposes a layer of lightweight, community-centric infrastructure throughout London by establishing a new type of a Community Land Trust and challenging preconceived methods of building. It aims to bring communities together by enabling them to build on the vast amount of leftover, seemingly unbuildable spaces throughout the city and proposes an open-source, participatory platform that challenges existing construction systems and acts as an operating system for architecture.

The members of the CLA focus on existing or attained skills to build structures that reflect their needs, characters, time and funds. The project opens the possibility of building as an action of civilian collaboration.

Because CLA initiatives are subject to a civic logic, rather than a financial one, the structures it produces are mere vehicles for the civic activities they promote. The finished building is not the goal with projects sometimes existing entirely digitally. The Civic Logic Alliance injects connective infrastructure into otherwise finished architecture and aims to deliver highly frictional and resilient instruments of citizenship.
